Pets are family, and losing your furbaby can very traumatic if they go missing.

Fortunately, cats and dogs that are microchipped and registered with Council helps ensure they’ll make their way home if they ever get lost.

Mayor Peter Flannery has reminded all pet owners that it is again time to renew annual pet registrations – before Wednesday, 30 September.

“While pet registration is a legal requirement, there are so many important reasons to make sure your pet is registered and your details are up to date,” Cr Flannery said.

“Not only does it ensure we can reconnect families with their lost pets quickly, we’ll reunite you with your pet free of charge for the first impoundment.

“Registration fees helps deliver responsible pet ownership education programs and the operation of our Dakabin animal management facility.”

Mayor Flannery said it is important that Council works together with responsible pet owners to ensure a safe, happy and healthy environment for pets and the community as a whole.

“The great shame of our region is that Moreton Bay has some of the highest rates of animal cruelty and also dog attacks in Queensland, which is a problem we’re determined to fix,” he said.

“To help encourage responsible pet ownership, Council offers reduced registration fees for de-sexed dogs and cats, subsidised microchipping events for our residents and community education pop-ups around our region.

“Pension and veteran affairs concessions are also available where a cat or dog has been de-sexed.

“Moreton Bay is home to over 85,000 registered animals, including more than 13,000 cats and 70,000 dogs so it is important residents to keep their details up to date with regards to their animals.”
