The hard work of an aspiring local environmental leader has earned him the prestigious 2020 Don Perrin Environmental Bursary.

Moreton Bay Region Mayor Peter Flannery said the $2000 bursary would help 18-year-old Bray Park resident Jason Ramsay realise his ecological aspirations.

“This is an investment in one of our region’s brightest young minds, with Jason having just finished Year 12 at Pine Rivers State High School and going on to study a Bachelor of Environmental Management at the University of the Sunshine Coast,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Jason has demonstrated a strong passion for the environment and active involvement in his local community.

“He volunteers with the Pine Rivers Community Nursery and Francis Road Bushcare group, a testament to his commitment to the environment.

“Jason’s aspiration is to understand the complex issues relating to water management and would like to pursue a career path that will address the sustainable use of water resources in South East Queensland.

“Council is proud to support the aspiring environmental leaders, because their passion has the power to change our world for the better. I think it’s a real investment in the future.

“I’m confident Jason will be an excellent environmental ambassador for the Moreton Bay Region.

“We hope this bursary eases some of the financial pressure and allows Jason to focus on his studies, we wish him all the best.”

The Don Perrin Environmental Bursary provides a first year tertiary student in the Moreton Bay Region studying an environmental-related course $2,000 to assist with their educational expenses.

The bursary is named after local resident Don Perrin in honour of his environmental contribution to the Moreton Bay Region.
