Community consultation is now open for locals to provide feedback on proposed safety improvements to the intersection of Boardman Road and Klingner Road in Kippa-Ring.
The $6.8 million project, jointly funded by Moreton Bay Regional Council and the Federal Government, will significantly improve traffic flow.
Moreton Bay Region Mayor Peter Flannery said the project would be designed to help reduce peak hour delays and congestion, as well as improve road safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
“The real experts on this road are the locals who drive it every day, so we need their feedback on the proposal to improve safety and network reliability to get it right,” he said.
“Let us know your thoughts on the new proposed intersection layout, which includes the installation of traffic lights, additional lanes and on-road cycle lanes.
“Council is committed to building an improved road and transport network, and I’d like to thank the Federal Government for recognising and supporting the importance of this project.”
Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth said that he welcomes the upgrade for locals and appreciates Moreton Bay Regional Council’s investment.
“This intersection upgrade will help residents get home quicker and provide better connectivity between the Redcliffe Peninsula and rest of the Moreton Bay Region,” he said.
“The Federal Government has invested $4 million to this project through the Urban Congestion Fund, and are excited to deliver this major project by early 2022.”
Division 5 Councillor Sandra Ruck said the proposed plan caters for future traffic growth in Kippa-Ring.
“As our region grows, Council needs to continue investing in infrastructure that keeps us moving, particularly getting from A-to-B on the road,” she said.
“We want to make the school drop-off and daily work commute as easy as possible.”
Division 6 Councillor Karl Winchester said the works would dramatically improve access in and out of the Redcliffe Peninsula.
“As a major entry point from the west of Moreton Bay, this intersection upgrade is vital to the future growth of the Redcliffe Peninsula,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to getting rid of the headache that many locals endured when using the intersection during peak hour.”
Community consultation closes Monday 15 June 2020.
