There’s still money available in this year’s Council’s Discretionary Funds, so Mayor Peter Flannery is encouraging community groups to make application.

“This initiative is specifically set up to help give smaller groups and charities a hand,” he said.

“In the past we’ve provided support to the amazing work of organisations like Rural Firies, Lions Clubs, local school initiatives, U3A, and even the Steam and Vintage Machinery Society.”

“As we chart a course to economic recovery, I want to make sure community groups aren’t forgotten and don’t slip through the cracks.

“Each year Councillors have a $30,000 Discretionary Fund allocation they can approve, which is a great way of delivering local support to literally every corner of our region.

“As Mayor I have a $75,000 allocation and I’m looking forward to seeing applications come in.”

Projects supported must be for a community purpose and may include projects that:

  • Improve community facilities located in the Moreton Bay Region;
  • Support community arts and cultural activities;
  • Improve the environment;
  • Support awards associated with school events and activities;
  • Contribute to community safety;
  • Contribute to improved health and well-being;
  • Purchase equipment to resource community organisations; and
  • Create opportunities for residents to be involved in their community.

Mayor Flannery said there was about $100,000 worth of grants still available from the $360,000 fund this financial year.

“So you’re going to have to get your applications in quick,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Discretionary funds are there to support grassroots community, cultural, sporting and environmental projects that provide a demonstrated benefit to the Moreton Bay Region.

“Retrospective funding is not available, we’re looking for new ideas and initiatives, or just to help grassroots groups get by through these tough times.

“If you have any enquiries or need any assistance, our community grants team are still hard at work and ready to take your calls to help.”

You have until 30 June to apply and applications must be submitted via the online grants portal.
