As the weather cools down and conditions become less hazardous, Morayfield will be the next location for Council’s annual planned burn program.
Mayor Peter Flannery said the proactive approach to fire prevention across the region would next include Morayfield on Thursday 7 May.
“Council is scheduling a planned burn, commonly known as a hazard reduction or controlled burn at Nairn Road Park in Morayfield,” Cr Flannery said.
“Weather permitting, this three-hectare burn will begin mid-morning and continue into the early-afternoon.
“Anyone with asthma and those sensitive to smoke close by are advised to shut their windows and stay indoors Thursday.
“Depending on weather conditions, smoke may be visible from the surrounding areas, however it will eventually disperse over the bushland by mid-afternoon Thursday.
“Fire Management crews will remain onsite until the area is deemed safe and will return to patrol the following day.
“Our experienced team will ensure there is no risk to residents, but as a precaution people are advised to keep away from the burn site during the immediate days following.
“The purpose of a planned burn is to eliminate ground fuel across large areas of bushland in preparation for the upcoming bushfire season which typically begins in late July.
“By practising planned burns such as this, Council will continue to minimise risk to the natural environment while protecting the community from potential bushfires.”
