Moreton Bay Regional Council Acting Mayor Mike Charlton has reinforced the strict warnings from Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk about the need for locals to stay home this Easter.

He praised locals for exemplary social distancing behaviour so far and said we need to stay the course.

“The only way we can prevent an uncontrolled spread of this pandemic is to maintain social distancing,” Cr Charlton said.

“This Easter will be unlike any holiday you and your family have celebrated before and as much as it will be sad to see our beaches and parks empty this Easter, I want to praise locals for doing the right thing to keep our community safe.

“It means that we are able to keep our beaches open, unlike other areas where people have flouted the rules.

“To be clear, this is for exercise only and only for locals.

“So you can go out to exercise, work, shopping and medical care but only while maintaining social distancing rules.

“Don’t be mistaken – this advice will save lives.

“As Prime Minister Scott Morrison said, if we choose to lapse on the work we’ve done so far, this Easter could be disastrous for the nationwide fight to stop the spread of coronavirus.

“This means staying inside your village and resisting the urge to travel, as Premier Anastasia Palaszczuk has advised all Queenslanders.

“While staying inside your village, you can continue to support businesses in your village.

“The #MoretonBayTough campaign reminds us that you can pre-order takeaway food, pick-up coffees and continue supporting our local businesses.

“So please stay home this Easter unless you absolutely need to go out. The future of Moreton Bay and Australia depends on it.

“Remember, even though times are tough, Moreton Bay is tougher!”
