The Arana Hills Library is getting a much-needed facelift that includes a new roof, customer service area and outdoor patio, and fresh lick of paint to refresh the space.

The library will be temporarily closed from Friday March 6 to Monday May 18 while works are undertaken.

Cr Matt Constance (Div 10) said investing in our region’s existing facilities is a priority, and a cost saver in the long run.

“These works will beautify what was a fairly old building so that Arana Hills residents have the best available facilities,” Cr Constance said.

“These works were originally planned to happen during the autumn months, however Mother Nature had other plans, prompting Council to bring the construction forward.

“Queensland’s fierce summer storms have fast-tracked scheduled works to upgrade the Arana Hills Library, with recent wild weather events causing leaking and electrical issues.

“Upgrading the existing library is a cost-effective solution that will ensure the longevity of the beloved community space.”

During the closure period, Council’s Mobile Library service will make additional stops in Arana Hills for those bookworms itching for a new read.

It will be parked at the Anglican Parish of Grovely, Cobbity Cres at the following dates/times:

  • Saturday service 9:00 AM -12:00 PM, operating every fortnight from Sat 7 March – Sat 16 May inclusive
  • Monday service 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, operating every fortnight from Mon 16 March – Mon 11 May inclusive (excluding Public Holidays)

“Residents are also encouraged to visit the Albany Creek Library, which is only a short drive away or any of the other nine libraries across the region during the close down period,” Cr Constance said.

“They can also access the multitude of online resources via the library category from the comfort of their home. From eBooks and audiobooks to magazines and videos, access to online library resources has never been easier or cheaper; it’s free!

“I want to thank the Hills District community and surrounding suburbs for their patience during this period.

“Council is working as quick as possible to get this upgrade completed and reopened.”
