Pine Hills Lightning Baseball Club is one step closer to hitting a home run at its brand new Council-funded facilities implemented in line with the 2015 James Drysdale Reserve Master Plan.

Moreton Bay Regional Council has invested $5.1 million on the baseball field upgrades, which are part of ongoing major redevelopment works on the site.

Council today extended the club’s lease over the upgraded facilities that is expected to be complete next month.

Councillor Matt Constance (Div10) said the Lightning are buzzing with excitement to start using the upgraded facilities, which will double its footprint at the facility.

“This exciting project has been a long time coming for Pine Hills Lightning Baseball Club, but it will be well worth the wait once the project is complete,” Cr Constance said.

“Council’s significant investment here reflects our dedication to enhancing sport and recreation infrastructure, so that we not only keep pace with the population growth we’re experiencing but also keep pace with community expectations.

“This is just one of many projects beginning or nearing completion across the region including the $15.5 million South Pine Sports Complex upgrade.”

The baseball project was part of a much broader strategic vision for the future of James Drysdale Reserve.

“We have already delivered a new SES depot onsite for the local branch,” Cr Constance said.

“We’re even reconfiguring the operations of the Bunya landfill facility, so we can expand the range of sports and recreation opportunities at James Drysdale Reserve.

“The master plan is due to be reviewed in two years’ time and will be updated to ensure that community infrastructure is delivered in a timely manner.”
