Reports of trail bike and motorbike riders illegally racing through parkland in Dakabin have led to an immediate crack down by Council.
Mayor Peter Flannery said Council has ramped up enforcement with additional daily patrols at the parkland between Old Gympie Road, Boundary Road and the Bruce Highway.
“We are already issuing warnings and $266 fines for serious or repeat offenders, having received multiple reports of people doing the wrong thing and riding across the open parkland area,” he said.
“Persistent offenders will be reported to police.
“This is wilful damage to public property, it’s illegal, and it won’t be tolerated.
“It’s also a significant safety risk, so I thank locals for their vigilance in alerting Council to this issue.
“Our Local Laws team has been actively patrolling the parkland and responding to complaints from the public to identify riders going against regulatory signage.
“The signage clearly displays what can and can’t be done in the park and explains that motorbikes and trail bikes are prohibited in the area, with penalties applying.
“We understand that trail bike riding is a popular activity for Moreton Bay residents, but our Council parks are for everyone’s enjoyment and we will not tolerate people wilfully breaking the rules.”
