Pine Rivers Junior League Club will be able to build a new $952,000 amenities block at Mathieson Park, after Council agreed to cover a funding shortfall.

Moreton Bay Region Mayor Peter Flannery announced Council would contribute an extra $215,000 on top of the $350,000 already allocated.

“It’s important at this uncertain time for us to provide our community with as much certainty as possible,” he said.

“Not just for families and ratepayers, but also the community clubs and organisations that are the beating hearts of our communities.

“Council is happy to partner with the State Government to make this project a reality and I’d like to thank Cr Denise Sims and Cr Mick Gillam for their work in bringing this important community project to fruition.

“Our $565,000 contribution will be a massive morale boost for the Pine Rivers Junior League Club, a significant investment in our region’s sporting infrastructure and a big support for local jobs.

“The club’s future is dependent on having the proper facilities in place, especially now that they play in the Brisbane Rugby League competition and more people are using the sporting grounds.”

Member for Kurwongbah Shane King said he’s always very keen on making sure local sporting clubs get the facilities they need.

“Being part of delivering this piece of infrastructure with a $387,000 State Government grant to the club is amazing,” he said.

“The Pine Rivers Bears have recently celebrated 50 years of Rugby League and are the only Brisbane Rugby League team in Moreton Bay.

“I would like to thank Council for being so proactive and working with our state government to get this project underway.”
