Hot on the heels of the ‘Amazing Race’ filming in Caboolture, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s crew are coming back to Moreton Bay.

Strathpine got an unexpected 15 minutes of fame last month after the national media fuelled speculation about “The Rock” actually being in Moreton Bay even though he wasn’t in the country.

Paparazzi and onlookers flocked to catch a glimpse of the A-lister, forcing Health Minister Steven Miles to issue a public statement to end rumours that “The Rock” had used an alias to evade coronavirus quarantine rules.

Mayor Flannery said despite the disruptions, the crew will again be coming back and had commented on how easy Moreton Bay Regional Council’s been to work with compared to others.

“I want to thank Council officers for their lightening fast turnaround on these approvals and the community for their patience,” he said.

“I want Moreton Bay to earn a reputation as the easiest place to film in South East Queensland, so I’m really heartened by such positive feedback.

“The economic benefit of having 100 crew in our region for both days was great and I look forward to them coming back for a third.

“In fact it’s estimated that the filming of ‘Young Rock’, along with two other NBC series filming in South East Queensland over the next 18 months, will inject $140 million into the economy and create 3,000 jobs.

“That’s a huge opportunity if we can get in on that action.

“So I hope these crews tell other production houses about how enthusiastic the Moreton Bay Region is to welcome new business and economic activity, who knows, we might see some celebs here?

“With our shimmering coastlines and stunning hinterland, why wouldn’t we be able to lure some A-listers away from the Gold Coast and Sydney.

“We’re already the first choice for a lot of national and international brands to film advertisements, but we want a slice of that Hollywood razzle dazzle.

“Which is why we’re working to make Moreton Bay Region the easiest and cheapest place to film in southeast Queensland.

“I hope this puts us in the box-office-seat for future filming success.”
