The Lions Club of Bribie Island will keep roaring at the Bribie Island Recreation Grounds, with Council today unanimously voting to renew the club’s $1 per annum peppercorn lease.

Mayor Peter Flannery said the lease renewal was the perfect birthday present for the club, which celebrates its 50-year anniversary this year.

“To ensure the local Bribie Island club can continue their great service to our community, Council only requires the Lions Club to pay a peppercorn lease of $1 each year over the next five years,” he said.

“This way the dedicated Lions Club volunteers can focus their energy on helping our local community, rather than stressing about fundraising to keep the lights on.”

Cr Brooke Savige (Div 1) said the renewed lease would incorporate extra space for club storage.

“The Lions Club of Bribie Island has held a lease with Council at the Bribie Island Recreation Grounds since 2009, it’s great to have them stay for another five with next to no rental costs on Council facilities,” she said.

“This is the least we can do to help our local Bribie Island club members who give so much back to our local community.”

The Bribie Island Lions Club was chartered on the 19th of March 1970 and is one of 1,200 Lions Australia clubs across Australia and Papua New Guinea, and one of 46,000 clubs worldwide.
