Moreton Bay Region Weather Update

The Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is monitoring the weather as rain continues to fall over the Moreton Bay Region.

LDMG Chair Cr Peter Flannery said although the rain is welcome, residents are encouraged to be prepared and take care on local roads.

“Storms and flooding can be unpredictable and it is important that you know your risk and have a plan in place should a severe weather event occur,” Cr Flannery said.

“While the initial intense rainfall forecasts have been downgraded, we are still experiencing sustained rain would could cause localised flooding in low-lying areas.

“Council’s disaster portal has some great advice on preparing your property, as well as checking flood maps and where you can access sandbag stations.

“We urge everyone to subscribe to MoretonAlert for local warnings and to monitor the Bureau of Meteorology for up-to-date weather information.”

Cr Flannery said all residents should take the necessary precautions to stay safe in the wet conditions.

“It’s important that motorists take extra care in the wet conditions and never drive on flooded roads – if it’s flooded, forget it.

“There is a chance that some frequently flooded roads will be closed, so plan your trip when driving in the wet.”

Council will monitor the weather and provide updates to the community.
