Moreton Bay Regional Council wants to help you celebrate NAIDOC Week 2020 this July 4-12.
Council is calling for expressions of interest between February 1 and April 1 from community organisations who wish to deliver NAIDOC Week activities this year.
Eligible groups can receive funding of up to $1000 (GST inclusive) for projects and activities that:
- Celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our community.
- Encourage wider community participation in cultural activities and projects.
- Brings together members of the community to learn, develop or share in new experiences.
- Creates new initiatives that are outside the organisation’s core business.
Spokesperson for Events and Ceremonies Cr Peter Flannery said NAIDOC Week was one of the most significant events on the calendar.
“The Moreton Bay Region includes land that traditionally belongs to the Jinibara, Kabi Kabi and Yuggera people,” he said.
“It is very important that we recognise and respect those who came before us. It is something that council takes great pride in and we hope this cash support will go a long way towards celebrating and preserving ancient indigenous culture; and also sharing these stories and celebrations with the broader community.”
