The doors are being opened on October 10 and 11, and you can secure your visit online.

Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said it was a landmark event for local art lovers and a massive boost for the region after the long-awaited opening was stalled by COVID-19.

“I’m so excited to say the new and improved Redcliffe Art Gallery building is ready to take its first visitors on guided tours of the facilities,” he said.

“In a time of coronavirus it will certainly be a unique experience given restricted numbers, but I believe that will allow you to appreciate the art and new building more intimately without the usual opening day crowds.

“It has been a monumental effort from Council staff and building contractors Leaf Building Group to get this project ready to go in such a difficult year, so I thank everyone for their amazing work.

“The gallery will be a new cultural destination bringing with it a new wave of visitors to Redcliffe and the greater Moreton Bay Region.

“But most of all I believe this is a timely injection of positivity for the local community, and a great place for everyone to come and be inspired.

Councillor Karl Winchester (Div 6) said bookings for these one-off guided tours are required on opening weekend, and can be made through Council’s website.

“Our amazing gallery staff will be on hand on October 10 and 11 to take you on a guided tour of the new building and the inaugural exhibitions on display,” he said.

“Bookings will be for one-hour time slots with a maximum of 20 people per session to provide a truly intimate experience and a safe COVID-free environment for visitors.

“The building itself has an incredible story to tell after taking on many different lives as a library and the old Redcliffe City Council chambers over its 50-year history.

“So come grab a coffee, browse the new art shop and listen to a series of local musicians playing in the courtyard once you’re done touring.”

Councillor Sandra Ruck (Div 5) said the opening exhibition pays homage to the life’s work of local 96-year-old artist Marc Clarke.

“Marc’s works have featured internationally and been turned into landmarks, and it’s the first time his body of work has been displayed like this,” she said.

“We were worried this remarkable local artist wouldn’t see the opening of the gallery, so he’s already been given a private tour with his family which was an incredibly emotional experience for everyone involved.

“Art is a great outlet for the mind and the soul, especially during difficult times like this, which is why our 2020-21 Budget invests $19.3 million across arts, libraries and history.”

Opening hours will be Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm after opening weekend.
