Moreton Bay Region residents are being asked to think big and think bold when sharing their ideas for the future Hills District Community Place.

Mayor Peter Flannery said there was an opportunity to redevelop the old Club Arana building on Dawson Parade to make way for a new community space.

“This project will breathe renewed life into the heart of the Hills District, so it’s essential that the project is created with the community’s vision and aspiration for this space in mind,” Mayor Flannery said.

“The vision is that the new space will complement the offerings of the neighbouring PCYC and Leslie Patrick Park to create a vibrant precinct for locals and families to enjoy.

“This is your opportunity to tell us if it should be a new business hub, a performing arts space, a bigger PCYC complex or a multiuse facility that integrates the community hall and library?

“For now, the site will provide extra overflow parking for the PCYC and Leslie Patrick Park, which boasts the award-winning Hills District All Abilities Playground.”

Local Councillor Matt Constance (Div 10) said he wanted to ensure locals were part of the planning for their community as The Hills District grows and changes.

“Council strategically purchased this property in 2019 specifically to create a dedicated community space next to Leslie Patrick Park and across from the local shopping centre,” Cr Constance said.

“Owning this site isn’t about today or tomorrow, it is about the future of our community and the opportunities it will provide for generations to come.

“This is the start of a longer community conversation, with more opportunities to have your say and input your ideas on this exciting project in the future.

“So be part of shaping your suburb’s future by completing the online survey, sharing your stories on our interactive map and helping to give Council a clear vision of what you think the precinct should offer for locals.”

Consultation closes on Friday 5 March 2021.
