See your favourite furry friends up close with the new animal statues installed in Caboolture, aimed to educate locals and visitors about the region’s unique wildlife.
The new installations at the Caboolture Region Environment Education Centre (CREEC) are part of the all-abilities playground, one of the only places in Brisbane where children with disabilities can play unhindered and in a tranquil natural environment.
Spokesperson for Parks, Recreation and Sport Councillor Koliana Winchester said the new arrivals will be popular with the kids these school holidays.
“See all your favourite Aussie animals, from a possum and platypus to a kookaburra and koala – all native species to the Moreton Bay Region,” Cr Winchester said.
“The statues will be used by CREEC staff and volunteers to educate visitors about the region’s local wildlife.
“Visitors are instilled with the take home message to keep natural areas and waterways clean and healthy to ensure the survival of our unique wildlife.
“The statues also provide a taste of what visitors can expect to see when exploring the 18 hectare park, with the natural bushland, eucalyptus plantation and creeks all home to various wildlife.
“Council identify the platypus and koala as priority species, which are highlighted in education programs with schools and to visitors who come into the education centre.
“Everyone can make a difference and that change can start at CREEC.”
